Cool damp and windy in A.M. Fair bright & warm in P.M. Arose 6:45 A.M. Hoed in garden, froze ice cream, on errands etc. Mr. Hamid of India spent day with us. Moved back at night. Talked with Merlin and Russell. Candled eggs. To be 10:30 P.M. Fireworks.

I guess since Independence Day was on a Sunday this year it was celebrated on Monday with a day off. That would explain the fireworks' being a day late.
